MISSION
The University of Illinois System launched the I-MMÁS initiative in 2021 to increase recruitment of Mexican students and expand collaborations in academic and research partnerships with universities, government agencies and private industries in Mexico. Enhance educational, cultural, scientific, technical, and social collaborations among the University of Illinois System (Chicago, Urbana-Champaign and Springfield), Mexican academic institutions, and Mexican-American students by building and sustaining a large-scale presence in education and research with participating institutions to strengthen a more significant well-educated community.
VISION
To establish a more extensive network of Mexican and Mexican-American students and scholars at the University of Illinois System (Chicago, Urbana-Champaign and Springfield) with synergistic opportunities for research, professional development, and student support, fostering a more equitable workforce of well-educated professionals capable of succeeding in life, and providing solutions to pressing challenges in Illinois and around the world.
STRATEGIES
- Increase the recruitment of Mexican and Mexican-American students in the University of Illinois System.
- Strengthen ties with Mexican scholars, academic institutions and the private sector by developing research collaborations with University of Illinois faculty.
- Build stronger relationships with Hispanic-serving academic institutions in the State of Illinois.
- Be an informational hub for prospective and current students.
- Create a mentorship and student ambassador collaborative platform to help onboard, retain, and support students.
- Facilitate research exchange among participating institutions.
- Seek funding opportunities to support student financial needs.
- Create a fund to support I-MMÁS.
