Filing a Request
External Relations and Communications, a central University of Illinois System office, responds to all FOIA requests for the University of Illinois. Adrienne Nazon, vice president of External Relations and Communications, is the chief records officer for the University of Illinois.
Questions should be directed to Andrew Marlan, associate director for FOIA administration. He can be reached at 217-333-6400.
NOTE: The University of Illinois only possesses records relating to the University of Illinois System and its three universities in Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and Springfield. If you seek records from another public body (for example, Western Illinois University or Illinois State University), please submit your request to that public body.
NOTE: Due to volume, requests are not acknowledged beyond the initial automated receipt email you receive when submitting a request.
NOTE: FOIA staff members are currently working remotely. Therefore, if you send a FOIA request by mail, the receipt of the request may be significantly delayed. We encourage you to send an electronic copy of the request via email to foia@uillinois.edu for prompt service.
Required information when filing

The response period for processing a FOIA does not start until a request is received by External Relations and Communications, the FOIA-processing office.
Due to volume, requests are not acknowledged.
Remember, the Freedom of Information Act is designed to allow you to inspect or receive copies of records. It does not require a public body to answer questions.
FOIA responses are logged on a public website.
The University of Illinois is committed to providing information in an accessible way, and therefore committed to assuring members of the public that are seeking information have access to that information. If you have a disability and the format of any record provided in response to a FOIA request interferes with your ability to access that information, please contact our office at 217-333-6400 or foia@uillinois.edu. To enable us to respond in a manner most helpful to you, please indicate the nature of the accessibility problem, your preferred format in which you wish to receive the material, and your contact information.
